Music and Lyrics
Today we watched the movie Music and Lyrics. A romantic comedy. To the DDA's surprise, the Finn did not object, yet found some interest in it.
The DDA especially liked one of the metaphorical phrasing, the line that went "... a melody is like sex; But then as you get to know the person, that's the lyrics, they store who they are underneath...". You can say it's a cheesy line, but it just makes sense.
We can use it in multiple scenarios depending on your individual taste:
1) A song that its melody attracts you first, then you learn about the lyrics.
2) A song that its lyrics catches you first, then your learn the attractive melody.
3) A song that both the melody and lyrics hit you right smack in your face, and you just know it's love at first sight.
Those are but a few simple basic scenarios. There are quite a few the Finn managed to twist out of the whole metaphor too:
4) A song that it's melody attracts you, but you just hate the lyrics.
5) A song that the lyrics you feel really strongly about, but you can't bear the melody.
6) A song that both the melody and lyrics you just hate outright.
Are there any more? Surely, there can be more...
Movie talk aside, we went past our favourite pie shop at Cutty Sark after the movie and found some rather sad news.... Our special pie & map shop had closed down end of last year.
After 116 years of serving pies and mash to the local community, Goddards Pie House has finally closed shop in November 2006.
They left this message on the shop front, with a link to a website and the possibility of attaining pies online?

We shall look forward to Easter for pie deliveries!

Anticipating Spring
This morning the DDA received her first Chinese New Year card. It's from a friend in HK. A very nice surprise indeed, a little nudge too to look out for Spring. The birdies out in the docks are already pairing up and some are even fighting for a suitable spot for a nest. The DDA and the Finn are looking forward to the day they can finally afford a nest of their own too.
The first month of year 2007 is already in the past. How extremely fast! Chinese New Year will fall on the 18th of February this year. This year, like last, the DDA and the Finn will spend CNY in London. Christmas though will be spent in sunny Malaysia!
This year according to the Chinese fortune predictions will be a busy year at work for the DDA. The same goes for the Finn with lots of possible travelling on the job. The DDA will supposedly enjoy pretty good luck throughout the year. As to how true these predictions are, only time will tell.
It has once become a topic of discussion between the DDA and a couple of friends - the truth behind fortune readings. Do we make things happen because we have been given guides at the beginning of the year, so we go about making decisions making things happen with the notion that certain things are about to happen? Or is there actually a bigger force in control of our future, mapping our daily decision making paths, and leave us to choose which route we want to take to get to the end point? The DDA just loves to muse on this, curious to find out the truth, to gain further understanding.
This - Joe Colombo: Inventing the Future exhibition in Manchester is an event the DDA is looking forward to sometime in February.
This book - Walking in this World - was presented as a gift from Stefania to the DDA. By author Julia Cameron, it is a book of practical strategies for creativity. Yes, there is lots of work to do to get in touch with the creative side again. It is never too late, just take one step at a time, just do it!
